Pokémon Winds and Waves were announced during Friday's Pokémon Presents stream, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the franchise. As part of the teaser trailer revealing the next generation of games, trainers got their first look at Generation 10's starter trio: Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua.

Like every generation's flagship releases, the trio is made up of grass, fire, and water types. Browt is a grass-type bird, Pombon a fire-type dog, and Gecqua a water-type gecko. I want them all, but especially Pombon, the next in a long line of adorable dog Pokémon.

Like Gen 9's Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Winds and Waves will feature an open world for trainers to explore. You'll encounter Pokémon roaming out in the wild across volcanic caves, glistening oceans, and thick jungles. According to the announcement post on the Pokémon news site, "The Pokémon that live in harmony with this region’s lush environment have developed their own unique ecosystems. During this adventure, you’ll team up with all kinds of Pokémon to overcome both the difficult road ahead and even the forces of nature that block your path at times." The Winds and Waves reveal trailer also showed off a pair of special Pikachu, who look like they're vacationing tourists.

Pokémon Winds and Waves are expected in 2027 as Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives. In the meantime, you can enjoy the Gen 1 remakes Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, out on Switch today, or catch up on the latest release, Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

IF Gamefreak wanted they could make legit amazing games. They have the ressources for it. But as it stands Pokemon will keep printing money while gamefreak does the bare minimum.

From what I understand the Pokemon Company wants synergy between the launch of the next gen mainline game and the next trading card game expansion. So when the latter is ready to go, Gamefreak drops the next gen game even if it’s in a beta state.

It's not just the TCG, it's also the plushies, the figurines, the gatcha capsules, all the physical merchandise, the Pokemon Company treats the games as an ad for all the other merchandise and doesn't give a shit if they are shit, only that it makes people want to buy everything else Pokemon other than the games.

It's so stupid tho, does anyone buying pokemon cards even give a shit about them having a new gen of pokemon a few months early? (Hell does anyone buying pokemon cards even like pokemon anymore or is it all speculative stonk bullshit?)

They could easily create content for new pokemon cards from old pokemon, between the old games, the spin off games, the anime and even the pokemon adventure manga they have enough material to create new pokemon cards for 20 years or more without needing a single new pokemon let alone a new generation

It's like fucking Madden at this point

In the Western market, no I don’t think many people would care. However, I don’t know what the Japanese market is like regarding that.

Hahaha don't be silly, the shareholders would never allow that.
