Is it really? I think we'd be a hell of a lot better off today if Trump won in 2020 instead of 2024. I also think we'd be better off if George Bush Sr. beat Clinton in 1992. The wrong Democrat is far more damaging in the long term than any Republican.

Strategically, politically, and economically is what I was talking about. the dark folks puppeting the GOP and trump we caught off guard last time. Now they ere prepared and are making huge plays that destabilize and put the US into inexorable decline. This one wasn't one we come back from. Now, that said, your point of view is something I did make assumptions about. If you mean just for the average citizen over the next few years, maybe a decade...then yeah, it should be okish. I wouldn't be hopeful, but it isn't end of days stuff yet. Also, if you position is as someone external to the US, then yeah, the ultimate fall of the US is absolutely a wonderful thing as larger external muntinational groups are forming in preparation for such a fall and to become self-reliant. The EU has a lot to gain from this collapse. So, in a way, you are right.

Strategically, voting in the wrong Democrats is what enabled the Republicans to do all of that. The US was in decline long before this batch of Republicans, and the Clintons had a lot to do with it.

Gavin Newsom believes in nothing. I honestly don't see any reason to believe he would govern any differently than Vance. He's nothing but a political opportunist, and the opportunities he seems drawn to are all coming from the right. Having Vance in office would fire up progressive resistance. Newsom would drive progressives to despair.
