Also worth noting that outside of war motorcyles are incredibly loud too, and I hate them for it, why can't my big ass car make more noise than a tiny ICE engine?
What the hell kind of nonsense normalized motorcycles with zero effective noise mitigation on them?
My least favorite experience while standing on top of a beautiful mountain is managing to still somehow hear a stupid Harley Davidson from like 30km away accelerating onto the highway. When your silly midlife crisis vehicle with a tiny engine makes more noise than 18-wheelers engaging their jake breaks, you are officially an asshole.
I can't wait for the day motorcyles are all electric, the amount of silence that has been arbitrarily demolished by unnecessarily loud motorcyle engines is suffocating lol.
A couple things. First, loud pipes save lives. Second, your car is much louder just remove the headers.
There's at least one study that says they don't.
I have avoided running into multiple bikes because I was able to hear them over the course of my life. I am going to have to call bullshit.
Do you drive with the music at a low volume? Or with your windows down? Or do you have a car that is not very soundproof? If so, then yeah, you're going to be different than that study since no study is perfect.
The study was just stupid. You can't hear exhaust because it is pointed the wrong direction!? It is like these idiots don't even know sound travels in all directions far faster than any vehicle.
I guess you can't hear fire engines or trains coming either because you are playing music at 100 decibels with your sound cancelling headphones on. Just dumb.
One time I was in a parking lot backing up when I heard a Harley and came to a stop. Avoided an accident. Numerous times driving on the highway getting ready for a lane change when I noticed a sound and double checked my blind spot. Surprise, a motorcycle was there.
Increasingly idgaf if motorcycles are particularly loud, so long as the noise limits in my municipality are reasonable to pedestrians and people sleeping, and are actually enforced. In short, keep your loud pipes if you insist that they keep you safe, but keep them away from where I live. In the meantime I actively encourage the development of visibility enhancement methods that don't disrupt everyone nearby.
Don't get me wrong, I can totally understand the hate that loud pipes generate. There are also assholes who do things like idle their loud bikes in their driveways for half an hour in the morning.
Yeah this is demanding someone prove a negative. They also haven't proven speed bumps have saved any lives, but they have proven it reduces speeds in parking lots.
Yeah but why
You literally said why can't your big ass car make that much sound. It can, much more than a motorcycle.
Loud pipes save the lives of the people driving around on them, mostly, so not sure that’s a good argument
It refers to the fact that driving motorcycles around cars is extremely dangerous. Driver's often ignore motorcycles and loud pipes are the one thing that keep a lot of motorcyclists from being run over.
This myth is still going strong I see
I am a bit of a seasoned driver and I grew up in the Seattle area. I have had a number of close calls and the motorcycles being loud was 100% a protective factor.
You can pretend whatever you want, but clearly I can't agree with you.
Yes. That’s what I said.
I am pretty sure you said
"Loud pipes save the lives of the people driving around on them, mostly, so not sure that’s a good argument"
Save the lives of people driving around them is not what loud pipes save lives means. I was just pointing that out. Cheers!
“Driving around on them” is different from “driving around them”
