Loud pipes save the lives of the people driving around on them, mostly, so not sure that’s a good argument
It refers to the fact that driving motorcycles around cars is extremely dangerous. Driver's often ignore motorcycles and loud pipes are the one thing that keep a lot of motorcyclists from being run over.
This myth is still going strong I see
I am a bit of a seasoned driver and I grew up in the Seattle area. I have had a number of close calls and the motorcycles being loud was 100% a protective factor.
