Should he stay home to take care of his family, the remaining slums community, and help foster the next generation of revolutionaries? Or are his skills as a warrior and idealist necessary to defeat the machinations of Shinra and Jenova?

I feel like he should be with his family. Marlene wouldn't have anyone if something were to happen to him.

If Barret didn't fight alongside Cloud and co. who would defeat Emerald Weapon with the ungermax, mime, hero drink trick?

But seriously if he didn't fight the planet was going to be toast with nothing left for Marlene to grow up in.
