Whoaβ¦ Meat prices are off the hook. I havenβt eaten meat in so long I only ever look at it when making broth for the cat. I donβt have the energy right now to get to a butcher but really should.
spoiler
How the hell is a pack of hot dogs $10? A 500g tube of Coles brand sausage mince is the same as bougie premade rissoles. A blade roast that cost $5-10 when I was a teenager is now $25? And so is chuck steak. Premium prices for ribs.Considered beef hearts but they are quite lean and also Iβm not sure about brothing organ meats for someone with bad kidneys.
Unfortunately sheβs allergic to chicken (which is the cheapest meat and offers things well suited like wings and necks). I was going to go for soup bones but she greatly prefers the meat broth.
Iβve chosen some $10 lamb shanks because they would stew well. Perhaps Iβll broth one and freeze the other for the next batch.
The price of meat is insane! Lucky the kids love chicken, very rarely we have anything else. If I find decent beef for a massaman or something it's still a bit pricey for a quantity for 5 people that'll do one meal only. The kids eat chicken, chicken and more chicken π
Mmmmmm chicken ππ
Gravy beef? My favourite cut. Needs to stew for at least an hour. It gets tender and melty.
Chef would know best
The only meat I'm buying these days is soup bones for the dog. $2-3 for about 8 pieces. Mostly vertebrae. Europe markets in Nobel Park. He gets one or two on Fridays. There's probably meat in his kibble.
