I actually had to look this up, but it's honestly not as big of a difference as I was originally thinking.
The Corsair with 6x 12.7 would be putting out a combined approximately 4500 rounds a minute compared to the A-10s 30mm at about 3900 per minute.
I think the warthog still may be winning in the dakka race especially when considering the amount of lead being thrown.
Not a historian, nor a mathematician, so this is all subject to correction:
In the 6x12.7 configuration, the F4U can deliver something in the neighborhood of 91 megajoules of energy per minute, through with a small magazine, it's limited to about 22MJ total.
The single GAU-8 clocks in at around 780MJ/minute (8.5x) and 230MJ total (10.5x).
The A-10 can also sling depleted uranium instead of lead. Doesn’t make a difference when firing at infantry, but helps punch through armor when trying to stop Soviet tanks from pushing through Central Europe.
What Soviet tanks? 🤣
