anyone else you're psyched for?
at the end of the day all these people are vying for control of the worlds largest murder death kill machine, its entire economy is based on outsourced suffering and resource extraction. (outsourced suffering meaning outsourced to anybody not wealthy enough to avoid it)
that doesnt magically change when someone takes power. it just moves in a slightly different direction for a time, mask on, mask off, mask on again. and in order to gain control of the machine you have to play the game, and the game requires human sacrifice. from every single member that participates.
thats not an excuse, mind you. its just the reality of american politics, and modern politics in general. and generally speaking, capitalism.
the best we can hope for is either a peoples revolution, or candidates that consistently shift the window further to a sustainable future with the least amount of suffering as possible. while completely dismantling its economic and political structure, and replacing it with something more equitable.
there are going to be a lot of seemingly middle of the road candidates that leftists arent going to be psyched about, or people on the right for that matter. but it is what it is.
not stoked about it, but what can i, a young canadian boy from the prairies do, but watch and wait, twiddling my widdle fumbs?
good luck down there.
My favorite party in the US is PSL, in Canada, the communist party of canada.
These are actual anti-war and anti-imperialist parties that oppose their country's wars, with votes and actions like protests, unlike socdems who want to preserve welfare state policies funded off the backs of the world's working poor.
US Socdems always support their country's wars, because they know that a weakening of the empire would result in a smaller pie from which they can negotiate crumbs from. Here's a few countries Bernie Sanders voted to attack:
to be fair for bernie he did argue that if the US, and the democratic party didnt adopt things like free healthcare and other social wellfare programs, that there would be a socialist/communist revolution in the not so distant future in the US, and arguably the west as a result. regardless of the harms he's assisted through his voting powers, or those like him, he is such a member that has at least, somewhat normalised and revitalised the term "socialism" as something logical to the current political and economical paradigm that leftists, liberals, and others in the US find themselves in. however id also argue that the failure of the system itself is the greatest propaganda. as this was predicted nearly two centuries ago as a result of unechecked capitalism by marx, and then later on more specifically by lenins remarks on the formation of monopolies and the inevitable collapse that follows them in the empirical stage of capitalism. which we now see more blatantly today.
for all the theory and history that is provided by marx/lenin/trotsky/mao, and all the other socialist/communist revolutionaries and theorists. one thing that is mainly ignored, or at least glossed over, or oversimplified to a degree in much of their writings. Is the capacity for human logic to adapt quickly after a lifetime of programming. specifically in the west. where bread and circus have nearly been perfected, and soon, fully automated. not only that but theory alone is not enough to shape reality. logic alone, is not enough to shape reality.
while communists and socialists bicker incesently about which form is correct, at which time and place, the reality is just as complex as the minutia of their disagreements. each individual has a different capacity for change. some are completely disabled to it. while others prefer a more milk toast version, or a completely radical overtaking by force, a permanent revolution. which in modernised terms essentially means the working class rises up, to declare themselves free of the ruling elites structure of hierarchy, and never relinquishes control back to a class based state.
essentially equality for all, forever. fighting any opposition that may arise to topple the working class. this is horrifying to many, but understandable to those who understand the opposing risks. it is not something that should be mirrored in its most flawed forms, it needs careful economic planning. a soft landing and support system that doesnt lift idealism and populism before reality.
socdems like bernie are still instruments of change, if only to put a foot in the door, for another way of thinking down the road. the evolution of culture is a long road, filled with failures. successes. steps forward, and backward. sometimes people are just not willing to accept a new type of future that conflicts with the one they were promised since birth. even if that original future will always be a dream. to them, it is the most beautiful thing they can work towards, the only thing that makes the suffering worthwhile. it is difficult to steer that away with swathing changes.
and so, you must sometimes water down the medicine, so to speak. capitalism is an addictive economic model. fast gains, burning the candle at both ends. extreme highs. and extreme lows. but the promise of wealth, and a therefore a repreive from threat of starvation and death that so many suffer from, who are a constant visual reminder to participate in the system, or you may end up like them. well, that in itself is the fuel in the machine. death and destruction, or infinite pleasures. hell, or heaven. it provides an ample do or die attitude that drives western industry.
so. piece by piece. front by front. we must remove the threat. until we can show the people that the fear was manufactured, and that there is no monster waiting for them under their beds. in the fractured state we find ourselves in, in the face of the failures of our predecessors, some of whom stole the light they did not deserve. we must pick our battles, carefully.
much like mao, in his days of geurilla warfare. we must not interrupt our enemies when they make mistakes. we have to come from where they least expect us. and offer not just violence, but a helping hand to those who might join us from the other side.
if bernie's theories are put to the test, and we have even one success from them, that is one more incremental shift towards absolution. brick by brick.
one thing we must learn is to roll with the punches, to adopt languages of understanding, to know our history, and to accept some forms of compromise in opposition to permanent infighting and failure.
to sum this up. is bernie's doctrine going to lead the world to a new international understanding, and reform of its entire value system to prop up the source of true value? human labour, human life, and a sustaining environment? to save us all from the tendrils of capitalistic greed, and the dismantling of the hierarchical structures that proceed, and prevail beyond it?
no.
however. he is, as of now, a popular enough crowd bringer, that brings further conversation, and more "radical" ideals to the table.
hes a stepping stone. the spoon full of sugar, that helps the medicine go down.
so we must remain vigilant, and ever present, working diligantly towards our goals, providing the truth that the working class needs to know. we have to craft a walkway to guide them to their own catharsis, so that when they are finally ready to take that next step, we are there to welcome them to their new home.
I disagree heavily with this. By incorrectly defining socialism as "imperial-core welfare" policies (IE keep the health care, keep the wars), socdems are mis-educating people and creating a bloc of nativist, imperial-core chauvinists who want even more priviledges at the expense of the world's workers.
Real socialists are not afraid to tell people that there is a larger struggle that exists outside their country's borders, and that the minority of priviledged imperial-core workers should not be living better than most of the world's workers. We should advocate the destruction of the US empire and an end to all wars, not its preservation and the continuation of war, as Bernie and AOC advocate for.
