Last year, people in the U.S. made an estimated $4.7 billion selling their plasma. Donation centers are popping up in middle-class neighborhoods, including suburban strip malls and college towns.

This is hopelessly depressing.

In conjunction with the "The U.S is shipping $6,200,000,000 (6.2 billion) worth of plasma overseas" and the "individual was paid $62 on a pre-paid debit card" you can see they've turned desperation into yet another profit source.
