I am a bit optimistic. This administration is a bully, and bullys win through intimidation. They prey on the weaker kids, demanding their lunch money precisely because they know no one will stop them.

Until that one kid gets the balls to actually do it. And maybe that kid gets beat up in the process. But then all the other kids understand that the bully can be fought, and they are more likely to resist.

Trump has captured the Republican Party by threatening anyone who stands in his way with primary challenges (and, in some cases, implied threats of stochastic violence). Once some Republicans start bucking him, and surviving, it gives more Republicans permission to do so.
