Is China really socialist? They are exploiting their people to western corporations to garner their technology, and get their factories built for them while they are at it. It's a long game by their ruling class to become a world player, using the greed of the west to take from their share of manufacturing and the resulting benefits from producing value from raw materials, which has a multiplying effect on jobs and spending. For every manufacturing job produced, it was at least as of 2 decades back, thought to produce 3 or 4 service jobs. Idk how true that still is with corporations siphoning off most of the money and paying a pittance to workers, the ones respending that money in the economy.
Regardless manufacturing is important, China is now the largest manufacturer, but it's private, western companies running 99 year leases on their factories, exploiting low wages and environmental standards. The "chinese characteristics" of socialism they describe seem a lot like an oligarchic capitalist system.
