While not necessarily documentaries, and, as much as I am loathe to recommend YouTube content creators, I really like
Mostly because I enjoy falling asleep to the sound of men’s voices talking about long ago and not-so-long-ago times. There are others, of course, but these are my favorites.
I love all of those great recs

Hell yes this looks right up my alley
He is also a marxist btw which is a huge W
Hell yes. I watched a couple last night and they’re excellent. Seems like he’s tight with the Let’s Talk Religion guy as well, so that’s cool. Thanks for the recommendation!
Have you checked out tribunate? Their stuff is always good, short, and they're definitely some flavor of (actually trained) materialist historians.
I've just watched a few videos from them after seeing this comment, they're great! and in one of them (the video on the state of emergency) he even cites Parenti at the end. Thanks for commenting about their channel!
Glad! They really deserve to have more eyes on their work. It's very high quality stuff.
yeah, was gonna mention them too. it's pretty much the only youtube rome channel that goes beyond what the ancient extremely reactionary aristocrats had to say about roman history, and tries to actually present the perspective of the lower roman orders.
No, but I’m gonna check ‘em out. Always on the lookout for this type of stuff
