Went back to ZEPHON out of curiosity and it's pretty cool. I had previously complained about the lack of progression but it does have a lot of lategame stuff that I hadn't realized. The game actually has a pretty huge emphasis on econ, not just combat, and if you make mistakes when managing your economy you'll be far worse off than making unit micromanagent errors.

I am also playing Oddsparks. I think this game is the best automation game out there right now, which is probably a super controversial statement. Unlike Factorio, Satisfactory, and Dyson Sphere Program, Oddsparks doesn't really care about scaling up your factories very much. You don't need to transport hundreds of materials or anything. It's really all about the fact that the game gives you interesting puzzles to figure out because getting the items around is a non-trivial task. There's a lot of tech for hauling things around, there's a logic system that actually is quite relevant unlike Factorio's (which I'm aware can be a little useful but not universally) because it can be used for designs that make much better use of space for getting items around.

Yes, yes it is. garcia-cock-shotty

Oddsparks is fun though. I haven't gotten into the full game yet. I played the demo way back and the performance got real chuggy by the end. Have you experienced any of that?

I've been getting stutters but I have a messed up setup in my PC. I'm running it through Proton on a wine prefix that I installed VCC runtime on that gave me a bunch of warnings, and I have a weird Linux kernel version because I was trying to get Blender to work with my AMD GPU and I haven't switched back to a regular setup. But it's mostly ok performance, I only notice the stutters when I'm doing something new or exploring.

I was playing Infinite Count and it took me 2 failed games on default settings medium difficulty to get it. From what I could glean from the subreddit I picked the hardest leader. I am 80 turns into a game with Platinum Scion and did much better; my major mistakes on the current game are going all in on Orbs as my unit of choice when they're meant to be paired with something that deals more damage, but I got the econ down super well so it'll be fine once I get to the tier 7 units. Definitely went much smoother than my games on Count where I just floundered and had a hard time getting my econ up because of the pop growth debuff. I won my third game on Count but I was just cheesing it because I got 2 meat trees right next to my spawn and ZEPHON was super friendly to me so I could basically chill and not have to worry about the downsides of playing Count. I really don't understand how you're meant to be killing a unit every turn to keep up growth if you don't have some way to cheese that downside.

Oh yeah I think the easiest leader is the fallen soldier. I need to spend more time with the game but I really liked what I saw.
