Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

At first glance, there may not appear to be anything unusual about the social media posts that are part of the ongoing recruitment drive by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

But to observers of the far-right, and to members of the far-right themselves, there is something else that is recognizable in the language of the posts.

On Aug 11, 2025, ICE posted an image on its socials of Uncle Sam at a crossroads. It included the tag line "Which way, American man?"

The post echoed a meme popular among right-wing influencers, who use the phrase "Which way, Western man?" to illustrate a choice between an image meant to represent liberal values and an image representing their own preferred option.

But the phrase itself is taken from the title of a 700-page antisemitic nonfiction book written by William Gayley Simpson and published by a neo-Nazi press in the late 1970s.

The book has long been a favourite among white supremacists.

I am SO sick of this passive, milquetoast, normalized, way of reframing the obvious neo-Nazi fascism behind all this. The time for gentle warnings was like 20 years ago. Anyone who at this point still thinks there may not be "anything unusual about the social media posts" needs to have this knowledge urgently beaten into their head with an informational sledgehammer. This kind of gentle, mild, both-sides-ing concern farming is such a waste of breath it's hard to believe it's not intentional sandbagging.

"I think ICE is headed in the wrong direction in that they're attracting the wrong type of individual to be involved in a very serious mission that they have," he said.

You think so, David Lapan? So you think that's the "wrong type" of individual for their "very serious mission", huh... for fuck's sake you blithering idiot. The violent fascist brutality against people unprepared to fight back IS THE WHOLE POINT. That IS their mission and purpose now. Stop living in your idealistic outdated dreamland of what you always imagined these agencies are supposed to be for and start accepting the reality of what they are RIGHT NOW. You can't afford to keep delaying everyone's understanding of what is really going on here. And the people who ARE irresponsibly delaying it and softening it and dragging their feet about it, I think, maybe actually want it to succeed.

Like you said, don't say it in a milquetoast way. The corporate owned media aren't maybe doing interference for fascism, they are. They don't want to cause panic because that will hurt shareholder interests and make it harder for the rich to avoid the public's wrath for backing fascism.

The liberal establishment is also not being honest about how fucked things are because they don't want to admit they have no power anymore. Liberalism is dead and can only be rebuilt, not saved. They don't want to admit that it's dead because that might actually cause people to want to fix the problems that let this happen in the first place. At a fundamental level, they don't want to recognize that the myth of the American dream is what led to Trump. They don't want to admit that an ideology of privatization and free markets was the deathcult all the commies and anarchists told them it was.

America will never move forward until it is humbled; until the myths of American exceptionalism are dead and buried. The post Trump era will not be recovery unless people reject the desire to return to the past.
