It is pointless but hardly a uniquely American thing.

It's just that the world is fed up to the backteeth with Americans pulling stunts nobody needs.

Him being American is completely and utterly irrelevant to anything here.
Nothing you've done, or ever will do, will be as impressive as this.
Yep, I'm pretty simple. I see a guy climb a skyscraper in an hour and a half with nothing but a t shirt, pants, shoes, and a bag of chalk, and I'm impressed. If you don't think it's impressive, I'd like to see you do it. You can even be tethered if it makes you feel safer.
