how tf do you work on a remake of a not-that-long sixth gen game for eight fucking years
They canceled the original remake because of backlash and then started again from scratch with Ubisoft Montreal. The game got rated last month so it was pretty much complete. A lot of sources said that it was going to release early this year.
Ubisoft is pretty much dead at this point. Their profitable IPs are owned partially by Tencent now and Tencents share will increase as Ubisoft spirals towards self destruction.
Considering that game distribution costs almost nothing and it's pretty clear at this point that Ubisoft has no standards, it's baffling that they cancelled it.
