General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Regarding defence:

The conclusion is inescapable: now is the time for the UK to reinforce, not wreck Europe’s security relationships, both through the European pillar of Nato and through cooperation with the EU. That means developing its own military capabilities as the US pulls back, as well as exploring a UK role in potential decision-making bodies such as a European security council.

Regarding the economy:

Labour should be open to renegotiating all barriers to cooperation – including integration with the single market in a Swiss-style deal.

Yes, many voted leave because they're anti-immigrant flagshaggers types but many were also misled

I'm not sure that categorising leave voters as having either been racists or been hoodwinked is doing your argument much favour tbh.

Oh yes because there only the 2 types of people I gave as examples who voted leave. No more nuance to it than that of course.

They were the only two examples you chose to give in favour of your argument that we should stay out.

Personally I think that those were poor examples, and it's much more nuanced than that, but then I wasn't the one making the argument or choosing the examples to back it up with.
