Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color
Why is the title different?
We like to have fun here.
What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.
What are the basic rules of the community?
-
Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.
-
This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.
-
Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.
-
No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.
-
Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.
FAQ
I don't look XYZ and/or sometimes I can pass as white so I don't know if I can post here. Can I?
-
This place is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This includes those of mixed heritage and those who may be "white" but are of an ethnicity that is a minority in their area (i.e. Kurds, etc) If you've experienced oppression due to your identity that is not based on sexual / gender identification, you are welcome here.
-
Moreover, for our American audience, we have people from around the world who are "white" but are oppressed due to being a minority in their country. They are and should be welcomed here.

Me on interracial couples normally: "So long as there is no fetishism, internalized racism, or anything else unhealthy going on, I don't see an issue with it!"
Me on interracial couples after seeing the posts they make on social media:
Do you have time? Because the horror stories I've seen. Like there are those who are just normal then there are others
Do tell!
Now this one isn't necessarily social media post but good lord. Woman I know was with white guy for a long time. She from south africa and so is he. Already I can hear the alarm bells go off in your head and you'd be right. Come engagement time the father of the guy owned farmland. Yeah more alarm bells. So the father outright said "if you marry a k word you will not inherit a dime from me". They stuck it inspite of it but eventually they drifted apart. She was on that apartheid apologism as well minimizing how bad it was considering she never lived through it. All I can say is
Just fucking
I'm telling you their kid is gonna grow up with esteem issues. Unions on this foundation where I imagine the power dynamics are
yeah absolutely not it.
I worry about this with one of my nieces who is 1/4th. black. Her dad is a cryptofascist who will immediately go off about Mexico any time it's brought up. He was also on that "George Floyd is a counterfeiter who died of a drug overdose" shtick for a while, too.
He's the one who banned me from their house and I haven't seen him in like 4 years now lmao
Damn that ain't right comrade.
Interracial relationships are either normal ones (usually if both parties have done their share to unlearn racist propaganda and have a liberationist pov) or just plain train wrecks and I say this as someone who is in one. Then again both my partner and I are mixed.
My granddad was a white guy who married a Chinese woman he met in Taiwan while he was deployed there with the navy, so you can already guess how 80% of this story goes. He spent the next several decades up until his death becoming obsessed with China, became a China studies professor, etc. From what I've heard from my dad the household was an abusive disaster and one parent pulling a knife on the other wasn't a rare occurrence. Literally every time I ever met him he would be demanding constant praise from whoever he was talking to for having solved racism, and in his own words having "cured racial hatred in my family for at least the next 5 generations."
Like damn, I guess his dementia must have made him forget about how 80% of my family is indulging in some form of self-hatred and doing purification-of-the-bloodline type shit, and how all my cousins became servant-of-the-empire foreign service freaks who all eventually wound up as ghouls working in the DC foreign policy circle.
when i lived in the philippines that type of shit would just air on national television. televised subjugation
I had crushes on white people before, prob a good thing none of them out if I'm being honest. I'm happy now and at a stage where I'm not chasing white approval as cringe as that's to admit about my past self
