Donald Trump has urged Cuba to "make a deal" or face consequences, warning that the flow of Venezuelan oil and money would now stop.

The US president has been turning his attention to Cuba since US forces seized Venezuela's leader Nicolás Maduro in a 3 January raid on its capital, Caracas.

Venezuela, a long-standing ally of Cuba, is believed to send around 35,000 barrels of oil a day to the island.

Cuba's foreign minister responded by saying his nation retained the right to import fuel "without interference", while its president said: "No one dictates what we do."

I would like to comment, yet again, that a month or two ago the US armed forces moved back into a naval base in Puerto Rico (Roosevelt Roads) that it had give back to the island years ago, without asking for permission. Again, this is no longer property of the US Navy, but they moved in anyway. They have since proceeded to relocate vast amounts of armaments to that base.

I mean, Puerto Rico is part of the US. That just sounds like federal land being used as federal land.

It was no longer officially federal land as it had been returned to the island. That said, SCOTUS also affirmed (in different words) that Puerto Rico is not truly self governing, that it is a colony and that it falls under the jurisdiction of congress. So technically, the entire island is federal land that congress can do whatever they want with. Yay colonialism!
