I had to delete my Canadian friends off my social media because they were both rabid pro facist Trump supporters. The last one was celebrating the annexation of Venezuela. It was weird AF

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

I hate that look for us

thank you for cutting ties with them

[–] Jason2357@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

There were actual Venezuelans in Canada celebrating the abduction. They have easy access to information about what happened in Iraq over the last 20 years, but it doesn't matter. That would require going out and finding the information, rather than being fed it by automated algorithms.

Instead of cutting ties you should keep the light exposed on them. Cutting them off just leaves them with all like minded friends in an echo chamber

It’s too depressing we are surrounded by these heavily propagandized people here in the states. It feels really threatening at this time. I’ve had to isolate for my own health and safety

[–] Tabooki@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Yikes. I feel for half of America.

Let me take a wild guess where in Canada they're from...

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

She lives in BC the other guy was in Ontario

Well, I was wrong, but not surprised

If 1/6 Ontarians think something and 1/2 Albertans think something then there are more Ontarians that think that thing than Albertans.

as an Ontarian, we have a HUGE blue (conservative) community because of how much of it is rural

and it follows the same shit as everywhere else, blue no matter who, even when they don't understand why. they wanted to fuck Trudeau (understandable tbh), now they want to fuck Carney (not my personal taste and a bit harder to understand, but I won't judge sexual preferences)

Hey, I'm from where you are suggesting, and I'm also emphatically against whats going on. Both domestically and internationally. I think most my age are. The only people propping this shit up are boomers (inherent racism from the 'good ol' days' + susceptible to social media rage baiting) and people that we grew up with that always latched onto minority causes and viewpoints because they thought it was so edgy. Basically the people that were clearly not going to amount to much. It's revenge of the dumb.

[–] AquaTofana@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Hey bruh, I'm a Millenial in America and thought the same thing about Conservatives/Republicans. "They're all a stupid minority, no one sensible feels this way."

Please, for the love of god, don't discount the right-winged weirdos around you. Ignoring those "edgelord cases" who were "never going to amount to anything" are exactly how we got a second Trump term. Use us as a warning.

They're fucking dumb, yet terrifyingly effective. Keep up the boycotts & public criticisms, we support you!

Yeah, people get fedfacebooks and YouTube algorithms. I have two people, BC and Ontario, that I had to stop taking to.

One believes all the right conspiracy stuff and believes the biggest issue is rainbows on sidewalks, etc. The other has two daughters and proclaimed feminist, transrights person, but wanted to move to Texas, where they had just removed women's rights. The can't see the contradiction for the "I have freedom and prosperity in the USA"

I haven't stopped talking to these people (I mean I don't talk to them, but I keep connections). I only do this, because the sun will eventually rise, and I want to make sure their behavior haunts them for the rest of their lives. Especially in one of the cases.
