spoilerwith the evil commies/resistance fighters deciding the best way to devise a cure is to immediately kill a child with immunity to get at her brain and learn about the cure instead of just conducting normal tests and keeping her alive

No worries. It's very easy to make that conflation. However, unless I'm wrong in how I followed the show, they're distinct from each other politically.
