In Scandinavian countries some labor unions will up and own a bunch of little summer cottages and timeshare them as a union benefit. 5 years of service with the union? Free week in the country
Some Soviet unions would have resorts on the Black Sea for their members.
the benefits the average worker was given blew me away when i first read about them. retirement at 55 for heavy labor jobs 60 for everyone else, more vacation time then soc dem governments. i guess some people got complacent and then came that lust for shiny new things instead of appreciating how much of your life is yours
You have the right idea, it will make even more sense if you ask who benefits from the changes that happened. Who would want to sell their citizens the idea of a luxurious Western life under amazing Capitalism?
A lot of post soviets never actually got to travel to the amazing land of freedom, they could never afford the ticket prices even when it was allowed, all they knew is from what was imported to them or they judge it based on cheap tourism spots that only exist thanks to imperialism which they are oblivious to, then they go like "wow Capitalism really so amazing! I get to go to Egypt and treated like I mean something for a whole week!!! :O And I get to flex on all my poor relatives, pfft they clearly do not work as hard as I do, look how cool and awesome I am! 8D Make sure you compare me to them, don't compare me to Jeff Bezos, don't you dare D:<".
