I skimmed What is to be done and Socialism: Utopian and Scientific and it was hard to understand NERD shit.
To be fair, What is to be Done? is absolutely drenched in terminology and context hyper-specific to the time period it was written. Socialism: Utopian and Scientific is by comparison clearer IMO, but as always reading in a group is the best way to read theory. If you want to read theory, and have a group near you or online, I think that's an excellent way to go about it!
Is there a suitable community on .ml, the Bear or the Grad?
Grad has a weekly reading group for various theory. Bear has one for Capital 1-3, one covering imperialism, and a new one covering Zionism. I follow these as I can, but sometimes life gets busy.
You can also ask general questions in any of the 3, there are comms for that.
Fair, lol. That happened to me with Capital volume 2, so now that it's wrapped up this late I missed volume 3. Gonna focus on more classic works I've missed before returning to Capital. Reading takes a lot of energy to keep up with, especially if it's for study and not for pleasure.
