Video Game Art

Video games are not mere time killers. They are albums of sound, aesthetics, animation and narrative.

This community is in appreciation of that. Screenshots, fanart, animations, gameplay clips. It is all welcome here.

The one common thread should be an eye for the aesthetic. This is not a place to discuss mechanics or stats, but to show off simply the artistic, expressed through the video game medium.

  1. All rules of the parent instance apply. That is, sopuli.xyz
  2. Include the name of the game your post is associated with in the post title.
  3. If your post is fanart, include a link to the artist in post body, if you can. You may also ping @saucechan@ani.social to have it attempt to find the source for you, and provide it in a comment.
  4. MARK ANY TEXT SPOILERS, as for art, do not post content that outright spoils key moments of a games narrative. Content that can only be understood with the context of having played the game, is ok.
  5. No generative AI art.

This is a resubmission of an earlier image I submitted

originally on lemmy.today's pict-rs instance

that later became inaccessible, and where a commenter complained. For some reason, whenever I try to update the image URL to point to an off-site host, lemmy.today tries instead using an URL that proxies through lemmy.today.

Uploading to catbox.moe and then creating a new post using an alternate account on a PieFed home instance as workaround.

EDIT: If I browse this post via lemmy.today, the server still intercepts the image, tries to cache it, and then fails, I assume because it's too large. If anyone else has problems with Lemmy's pict-rs proxy image serving on their own home instance, here's a direct link: https://files.catbox.moe/753253.png

I always wanted to play this game and never got the opportunity. Now I just don't have the time.

I really recommend the remake, the art style still fantastic, the rearranged musics are perfect (you still can play with the original score), and the gameplay have been rebalanced.

It's available on Steam, PSN and PSVita, also one of the easiest Vita games to emulate on androis "wink, wink"

I get you, friend. Life gets in the way sometimes.

That said, it's not the 90s anymore and advances in emulation make big games really accessible now. My other half picked up an Anbernic console and it's amazing to play old games with the QoL improvements - the key one being save states.

There's also the option to emulate on a phone but personally I think the lack of physical buttons really hurts the experience - that's a preference thing not a hard and fast rule.

Have a think about it - I used to dismiss big games out of hand based on the time factor, but now I'm finding half an hour here or two twenty minutes sessions an afternoon breaks up the day or a journey.

Just a thought.

I manage to get an hour in with the phone plus a controller with a phone holder attached (8bitdo in my case). It's easy enough to sleep it when needed but you need to be careful it doesn't auto close. Still an attachment, but one I have by my bedside.

Absolutely better than doomscrolling (which I obviously am doing atm, but I'm in-between retro games lol)
