You're not a true leftist until your dad calls you a pinko
Jokes aside, I'm sorry man, that sounds like hell to get through.
you ain't done nothing if you ain't been called a red
I do love that song... I guess because I think it's funny when I get called Cold War insults. I know he's really steamed when he goes past "pinko" and calls me a red, or starts flinging nonexistent tendency labels (I figure he's not screwing around anymore and I'd better deescalate instead of playing along, when the word "Stalinist" gets used).
Yeah, lol. You know you're a true commie when you've gotten a child of the Cold War to call you a Stalinist! Which he has. It was fun to explain to him that Stalinism does not exist.
I made it sound worse than it is. It's just tricky for me to do three to five days of constant People-ing in one big block. Probably a neurodivergence thing. And the more I'm low on spoons/social battery or running on fumes, the more likely I am to say aloud certain inside thoughts, most of which get me called a pinko or lead down a road that eventually causes someone to scream at me about '56 because Dad's family are all still mad about it and they can't scream in Stalin's face about it so I'll suffice as a stand in. If I'm careful it's nothing more than a strain test on my social batteries.
But hey, when I shut up and let the old Cold Warriors lib it up, I get lots of material for all my self indulgent fiction set in the Cold War, where the twist on the old tropes is the Soviets are the good guys, lots of quotes and perspectives of the Cold Warriors in the stories, which I know is super realistic because an actual Western neoliberal said it to me unprovoked!
It's a little funny to yell at a "Stalinist" about something Khrushchev did.
Indeed. Especially when she isn't even a Stalinist (because those don't exist), just a bog standard ML. But remember, these are people with a weak at best connection to the events in question, who just blame Stalin for everything the USSR did that they don't like (and attribute the few things they do like to Khrushchev, ugh, they're somehow both Western shitlibs and revisionists).
Liberals will take up de facto siding with revisionists or anarchists on almost literally any issue so long as it lets them contradict MLs, and increasingly they are taking up fascist talking points too (as they have in the past and either ignore or pretend to have "learned from").
Yeep. These are people who will, in the same breath, say all the old Red Scare junk about the Soviet Union, then say Perestroika and Glasnost were the right idea and it was the hardline Stalinists that brought the USSR down, not the fucking revisionists. Which, as a hardline Stalinist myself, I hate even more than their usual no nuance "commies bad, USSR bad, December '91 good".
(I'm not actually a Stalinist, those don't exist. But when people start talking about "hardline" commies... well, yeah, every single case of that was just anti revisionism, and I am an anti revisionist. So yes, I am a "hardline" ML.)
There are no actual "liberals". Just ideologically bankrupt anti-communists who will side with literally anyone who opposes Marxist-Leninists. These are a group that encompasses Ronald Reagan, and tree-hugging environmental crusaders who oppose "big business" on some level but don't understand that capitalism in itself is the problem, and people who think Hitler had good points on what communists call the national question, and people who think Khrushchev was right. These are not a group with a consistent shared ideology beyond "fuck the MLs".
I was not saying I don't know why these people are like that, just moaning that it's annoying and frustrating to have to sit there and listen to it and pretend they aren't being self contradictory.
