Yup. I feel this.
I've always wanted to play Dnd, but never found anyone interested irl.
I don't know where you live, but a lot of brick & mortar board game stores either run session, or know who do. Also, there 's a chronic lack of (good) DMs. If you're willing to DM then finding players should not be hard.
I shun the day walkers. /jk
Meetup.com
Meetup got me into vampire larps when I was a teen. Loved those days.
adultfriendfinder.comI'm way too socially awkward to try and join a new group and none of my friends are interested in any sort of ttrpg so I just started playing solo D&D. Once you get into the habit of using solo tables it's pretty fun. The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox is a great book for trying it out, I just wish I could find something on the same level for other rulesets.
If it helps, most people in a game store, and most dnd players, are socially awkward as well.
I used to be very socially awkward as a kid until I went to my local game store to play yugioh. I haven't played in ages but I'm still happy i did! I'm still socially awkward, but a lot less than before, and I met some people I'm still friends with years later.
