Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

“Jury of your peers”

More than half our peers are fascists and their sympathizers

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 31 points 3 months ago

The other half are useful idiots.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 3 months ago

A "fascist sympathizer" is just a fascist.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 8 points 3 months ago

This is why I am becoming kinda...okay? With a civil war, now. I don't want my neighbors nor government to consist of Nazis.

War sucks. But living the rest of my life with awful people would be even worse.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Hey, non-voters and protest voters, y'all fall under that "sympathizers" bucket. Have the day you voted for! ✨

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 12 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Weird how all the “protest voters” I know, seem to have no problem with anything currently happening. In fact, any time I bring up politics, I’m reminded of how the real fascism was having to wear masks.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago

Daron from SoaD is a perfect example of this. He says he's "far middle" but he spends all his time attacking leftists, mainly for using his own lyrics against him

Non-voter: “but 1 didn’t vOtE!”

Everyone else: “Yeah you did. You’re just too stupid to understand what you voted for. Or make any effort to.”

Someone hasn't looked at the election data for 2024 because those people wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome, but whatever it takes to keep the heat off the people and party actually running the "opposition" campaign, right?

[–] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Did you just make the factually wrong claim that non-voters wouldn't have made a difference in the 2024 outcome if they voted?

[–] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well at least you're dishonest about it

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works -4 points 3 months ago

This is what your 4th or 5th reply and you've provided exactly zero facts to suggest that anything I've said is wrong. Now, why would that be?

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

This is going to blow your mind, but I'm fully capable of being mad at multiple people/groups.

Blame can be shared.

Also the rhetoric surrounding the non-voters almost certainly flipped some centrists. Enough to matter? Hard to say

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works -2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Are you using sock accounts and forgot to change back or something? You aren't the person I replied to.

By "the rhetoric surrounding the non-voters" do you mean the valid criticism of our leaders who've ignored us for decades for their own gain and refuse to change course as they drive us off a cliff? You think the problem is that too many people know about their bad behavior and not the fact that they're engaging in said behavior in the first place? What a joke.

Blame can be shared

Yes, and you can share the blame with the person steering us toward a cliff for giving them your unwavering support despite all the other passengers shouting about the rapidly approaching cliff directly in our path.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Are you using sock accounts and forgot to change back or something? You aren't the person I replied to.

If you don't want other people on an open forum to respond to you need to move to dm.

But anyway, no I meant the rhetoric behind this "both parties are the same so I won't vote" or "this party did something I don't like so I won't vote".

This let's the party actually driving us off the cliff win.

Dems are fundamentally flawed, they're not going to fix anything but we also wouldn't be a fascist sithole of a country now. We wouldn't be gearing up to invade Venezuela, women could still have the rights to their own bodies, ICE wouldn't be rounding people up off the streets, and I can keep this list going all day.

The dems fundamentally failed to respond to their base, but they were by far the best chance for our country still last election.

Would I love to not have to live with this 2 party system? Absolutely, but that's not our reality.
