Quite literally in the case of classic stuff
Nowadays I'd be surprised if stuff is ever really lost, but it can definitely be locked behind arbitrary cages with no recourse.
There's a couple old shows from my favorite actors/actresses that you literally cannot stream or buy anywhere anymore. If I don't hold onto it, who will?
That's...pretty much what I said though. I'm just making the claim it surely exists somewhere.
