Trump does not speak for all Americans

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

And yet Americans have managed to elect the absolutely least suitable person on earth as their president. Twice.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social -3 points 4 months ago (2 children)

and yet it wasn't most Americans that elected him.

Either time.

[–] Mannimarco@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

the lesson is don't trust imperialists even if they say "democracy". The US has one of the weakest "democracies" in the west.

Before Trump made it worse.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The others didn't vote so they did not want democracy.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 1 points 4 months ago

Trump lost the popular vote, dumbass. If it were actually up to the people who you want to blame, he would have LOST.

[–] slackassassin@piefed.social 0 points 4 months ago

Unfortunately, that fact doesn't prevent people from grouping and othering to feel superior. What xenophobia does to a mf.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's literally his job to speak for all Americans.

Those Americans who disagree need to work much harder harder to fix the problems of their country which allowed him to become the leader (twice).

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Since when has Trump EVER been good at ANY job?

Again, he does not speak for all Americans. Period.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca -1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I never claimed he was good at it. Just that speaking for America is the presidents job.

Yes, a job that he is doing poorly at, but it's what you lot elected him (twice) to do.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Again, no. No it is not. He was not elected by the people. Do you not know how elections function in the US? You reek of prideful ignorance. Meaning, you sound American.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

sigh

He was elected by the system that the USA uses to choose their leaders.

Regardless of how flawed that system is, he was chosen by the system of that country to be it's leader.

you sound American.

So now you're just insulting me.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yea, the system elected him. Not all Americans.

Interesting how you cannot separate the two. Are you the kind of person to blame every single Russian for Putin? Every Chinese person for Xi? Everyone in the Philipines responsible for Duterte?

The list goes on... You blindly blaming the people for a problem that CLEARLY exists with systems and power structures is providing cover for how such people corrupt and take control. Your ignorance damages the world and helps only those in power retain control by dividing their opposition.

You have a shameful understanding of the world.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The only ones who can fix this problem is Americans working together, rather than being a bunch of independent "rugged individualists" or whatever their self-image normally is.

Insisting that you are helpless victims of your own country doesn't do anything to improve the situation.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Nowhere did I say Americans are helpless victims. I said Trump doesn't speak for everyone. Crazy how you keep trying to blame people.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Trump doesn't speak for everyone

I hope more of your fellow Americans are willing to stand up and prove that.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Me too, but to say such shit as this convo is just alienating Americans and reducing the chances of that.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

just alienating Americans

I think the name of this sub is enough to do that...

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 1 points 4 months ago

Again, not separating the government from its people makes you the dumbest one in the room.

[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

America elected him twice. That says something right there.

This second round they are stripping away freedoms and rights yet the non-pro Trump people are just rolling over and letting it happen.

I think America wants this.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Yes, it says that the US is not as democratic as it pretends.

Because he lost the popular vote. Both times.

[–] lost_faith@lemmy.ca -2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Sadly, as the president, he does speak for all the people of the US, Like Carney does for Canada or Doug Fraud does for Ontarians

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 months ago (3 children)

No, he doesn't.

Representing a country DOES NOT EQUATE to representing every single person in said country. This is like saying Hitler represented every single German. It's laughable.

[–] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 months ago

He may not represent all US population views, tho when he SPEAKS he speaks for the US. How do we separate that? It sure seems when Doug put out that ad that ALL Ontarians and all Canadians were lumped into the same boat (all negotiations are OFF), even though no one outside Ontario COULD even vote for Doug. I didn't vote for Doug, he doesn't represent my views, but he speaks for Ontario... where I live

[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

When the American president says he wants to take Canada as the 51st state, we don't look at it lightly.

When Trump and his administration trash talk Canada, it reflects on all of America. I personally hold all of America responsible.

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Ok. Then I'll hold every Canadian responsible for the murders of native residential school children.

E: ducking autocorrupt

[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca -1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

If you like, sure. It is a fucking travesty in our past and a solid reason to go after the church behind it.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Oh, so now it's the church's fault and not all Canadians?

Fucking hypocrite...

[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

You can blame whoever you like. I don't care.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Hey. Fuck you. I'm not an American.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yea I understand that. Good job, again, utterly and completely missing the point. You trying out for the Ignorance Olympics?

[–] IndridCold@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

You trying out for the Ignorance Olympics

Dude. I already said I wasn't American.

[–] MotoAsh@piefed.social 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Yea you must be trying out... The Olympics is an international organization founded in Switzerland.

Keep up that ignorance, though! You're shooting for the stars, and I support you!

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yeah...10 guys started WW2 without any enthusiastic help from Germans. Everyone was following orders.

[–] GeeDubHayduke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 months ago

You ARE aware that Jews were German. Right?
