more like academic will talk to anybody, including enemies of humanity, provided you sweeten the deal with a pocket change from a cushion
talk to anybody on their pedo island, get massages from any children, etc.

I think it's less about money, and more about the allure of the minor celebrity status that comes with being a "public intellectual"
Or maybe this isn't about status or money.
