Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1620 readers
47 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

To the mods of this comm, I understand this isn't a post complaining about a mod action taken against me. It's hardly even a complaint against a mod, although he does mod a handful of communities. I know it's a hard-to-prove personal message that the accused will deny sending or say was a joke he told a troll, his word vs mine. But this is beyond the usual actions mods take. This is abuse of the fediverse, harrassment, ban evasion, and vote manipulation.

I believe the situation to be self evident even without this message that the users who frequent DonaldJMusk's comms are primarily him with a new username on a new server and they're leaking out into other communities with ill intent.

If action is to be taken against this post, I ask that it be locked and not deleted.

I picked Lemmy.today because it allows me to block instances instead of the admins deciding which to defed from. But I do acknowledge that it allows a lot of freaks in.

Aussie.zone lets you block instances too. And it's not facist.

also been able to on dbzer0, I had thought it was a universal feature

settings > blocks > block instance (scroll down)

You will notice that users from those so-called "blocked" instances can still:

  1. respond to your comments
  2. vote on your content
  3. send you DMs
  4. which are allowed to trigger notifications
  5. post in your communities
  6. etc.

What it blocks:

  1. you from seeing communities housed on those instances (even if posted from people on other instances)

In short it should have been named a "community mute" rather than an "instance block". The best way to block an entire instance frankly is to switch from Lemmy to PieFed. Otherwise there is only a tiny minority of apps (Sync and Connect iirc) that will offer that - the rest merely connect you to the same misnamed instance block (but actually no and rather community muting) feature inbuilt into Lemmy, unless you start to get into things like hacking your feed with a browser plugin to filter users from instances that you want blocked.
