Hillary Clinton is facing a deluge of criticism after stating that young Americans' growing support for Palestinians is influenced by "totally made-up" videos on TikTok and suggesting that American youth - including young Jews - "don't know history and don't understand" Israel's war on Gaza.

Speaking on Tuesday at a summit hosted by the right-wing Israeli paper Israel Hayom in New York City, the former Democratic presidential candidate expressed her concerns that “smart, well-educated young people” in America and around the world are getting a lot of their information, including about Israel and Palestine, from social media platforms like TikTok.

The former US secretary of state described it as "serious problem for democracy", remarking that when she attempted to have "reasonable discussions" with young people, it was challenging because “they did not know history, they had very little context, and what they were being told on social media was not just one-sided, it was pure propaganda".

Look, lady, at some point the prior history doesn't matter. The history we're experiencing right the fuck now is a single day, a single attack, by Hamas responded to by two fucking solid years of calculated extermination and nullification of the Palestinian people.

It doesn't fucking matter what happened thirty god damned years ago when the average age in Gaza before Oct 7th 2023 was fucking sixteen! Guess what Hillary you fucking idiot, 16 year olds haven't been alive long enough to have had anything to fucking do with that history!

The fucking audacity of her ass to be talking about the "history!"

Of all people, this bitch deserved to lose to Trump. She even used her connections to promote him in the media because she was fucksure she would end up in the general election against Jeb Bush. That's what you get for fucking over Bernie Sanders!

Well I mean even if you do look back historically Israel took the land from the Palestinians and displaced like 700,000 of them.

That is why that war will never, ever end. They stole that land. It wasn't theirs.

I like how they leave out that part of history though. Don't wanna talk about that or you're antisemitic which is absolutely bullshit.

Steal peoples land and then act all surprised when generations of them want you to die and get their land back. Seems simple enough.

Agreed. These "centrists" can go sit on a cactus

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 27 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

We need to stop calling them centrists and call a spade a spade. They're conservatives, plain and simple.

I don’t even like using that stupid left-right sliding scale to describe American politicians anymore. That’s not what most of these people are. They are just conduits for oligarchy to filter money from the working class to the elites and don’t hold any real personal ideology beyond that. They campaign on divisive social issues but for the majority of them that’s really where it truly ends within the context of political ideology as a working class man OR as someone who studies the philosophy of politics understands it.

You've successfully and correctly identified the problem with using the "left-right sliding scale" to describe America as being that there is no left.
