Me looking for that DSA-NYC member who posts here and said Mamdani could help with rent control from day one.
Well, he can. That’s how the Rent Guidelines Board works. He’s able to change the voting balance of the board immediately because one of the nine members serves directly at the mayor's behest.
The current voting balance is 5-4 in favor of raising rent, and 8 of the board members serve terms that aren’t set to expire. One of the members in favor of raising rent is the one serving at the behest of the current mayor, Eric Adams. They’ll be changed day one of a Zohran mayoralty, and then vote the next time the RGB is set to convene regarding rent of rent stabilized units.
I know you all love to hate Zohran, but this remains the most likely and simple one of his campaign promises to implement, and it will be strengthened over time by his further 8 appointees to the rent guidelines board during his term.
So what will you do when he picks a guy who also votes to raise rents and couches it as the right thing to do at a tough moment?
What will I do if Zohran’s at-will appointee votes to raise rents?
DM me, I’ll personally pay for a month of your rent if that happens
Thats a safe bet no matter what its on cause I have adhd too bad to ever remember this even if I win lol
I mean literally dm me and I’ll leave it unread
