But why are planes following it? I am missing a step here.
The longer answer is that a U.S. aircraft carrier and other military assets have been positioned near Venezuela. So when Trump screams “No Fly Zone!” it’s basically a threat to shoot anything down using the military that is known to be there. Commercial airlines don’t want to risk losing people/planes so they obey.
Oh so literally violence. No legal mechanism.
Absolutely. There is nothing legal about it at all. It’s literally “I’m bigger and have a bigger gun too.”
Presumably Venezuela gave a legal order in response. I think that's what I was missing.
