my partner grew up in Asia and was horrified to find out that some Americans wear shoes indoors.

i grew up that way though. it was so common that it bordered on offensive for someone to ask me to remove my shoes at the door.

I've been with my partner for 15 years now so I'm completely used to taking my shoes off when i go to people's houses and i understand just how disgusting it is to not remove them.

my mom came to visit for the first time in 5 years and weeks and wore her shoes the entire time, only taking them off to use the shower to go to bed. i meant to tell her right off the bat but kept getting distracted by all the tea spilling and then it was just too late to tell her after the first couple days.

we ended up buying a steam cleaner and did the whole house after she left.
