If you follow these, you'll be fine:

Don't hate on minorities
Don't post AI content outside of communities made for it
Don't insert yourself into communities where you don't belong, eg:

  • Don't comment "As a man, ..." in WomensStuff
  • Don't debate the validity of trans folks on Blahaj
  • Don't criticize China in any way on lemmy.ml

DO NOT post anything negative about Linux (unless you're comparing it to BSD, of course)

Sometimes it's a bit harder not to offend than on reddit, because posts may hit your front page from an instance that was created as a safe space for a group you're not part of, and they may react harshly to you budding in.

You can criticize China, there's just good ways and bad ways of doing that. Overwhelmingly, "critique" just means dogmatically repeating red scare-style nonsense seeing China as an enemy, and not genuine critique.

easier to offend

Also because marginalized people are allowed here. Will be a great lesson in not being a dick!

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Don’t criticize China in any way on lemmy.ml

Note that actual serious criticism of China is fine. If you want to critise their support of the Khmer Rouge, or their inaction on Palestine, or things like that, no one will mind. It's just when all you're doing is mindlessly reciting vacuous anti-China jingoism that you run into trouble.

I'd add that you should be able to criticize anything you want on Lemmy. Sometimes you are right and the whole world is wrong. Especially if some Chinese Linux distro messed up your laptop. /s

You can post whatever you want on Lemmy without any moderation, just fire up your own instance.
No one will stop you and no one can ban you. But no one is forced to stay federated with you, or allow your content on their servers, either.

I am also definitely over thirteen, and hope I can use arch soon btw (I need a pc case and power supply?)

[–] iamdefinitelyoverthirteen@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

You definitely need a power supply.

[–] Camille_Jamal@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Definitely. There's 2 supply plugs on my motherboard. Do they both need to be plugged in? I'm really new to pc building, and my parts are retired parts from the old hospital (dad works there, new hospital was recently built) which 90% don't go together, and for every part, there's a 50% chance it's already toast

[–] iamdefinitelyoverthirteen@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Haha FAFO, I guess. The big plug definitely needs to be plugged into the mobo.

[–] Camille_Jamal@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 months ago

I'm assuming mobo is motherboard, I'm getting a new power supply so I can power it, because I don't have any on either of my current 2 that match the smaller one (I assume small one is for cpu?)

It's a MSI B150M Mortar, iirc

[–] mech@feddit.org 2 points 4 months ago

The only reason I don't is that I'm too stupid to setup BTRFS snapshots and full disk encryption with LVM on it.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

[–] Camille_Jamal@lemmy.ml 1 points 4 months ago

alright, thanks, also I don't ai, though I have been told once or twice that I sound like it in my writing (it's not ai, I'm just autistic, see you on monday) and I try not to politics, because that makes me stressed and confused, so I think it should be good.

WomensStuff

If you're not a woman, it's likely best to block (as in - ignore) that channel, so you don't participate by a mistake. The rules there forbid non-female participation.

Don’t criticize China in any way on lemmy.ml

I get 50/50 upvote/downvote ratio for that, so no. Some of the users are unhinged though on "USA bad so China is good".

He called the women Females!
