I will say that I have also seen measures that are targeted specifically at wide cars, e.g. bollards along the side of the road that do not block it, unless your car is too wide to fit between them. Presumably part of the reasoning is to still allow some form of access, so that's hopeful.

I have not seen that, but that is actually a great solution. I think measures such as that would work much better and would be more targeted at the cars that are actually an issue.
