Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

I don’t have any additional insight into or commentary to add, other than to note that it’s wild to start making investigations some 30 years after the event.

Why don't people archive.ph, when posting from possibly reactionary sources: https://archive.ph/Hvirc

Anyways, on this news, wtf

[–] carpoftruth@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago

Hey, drop the pass ag tone! Just ask nicely, I’ll modify the post. Edit: done.

Wait, that's passive aggressive? Anyways [for the other edits], thank you!

You’re welcome and no worries.

Explanation of why it’s passive aggressive and annoyed me.Yes, it is passive aggressive.

“Why don’t people…?”

You’re trying to attack your grievance, I.e. people not using archive links, but rather than just advocating directly for your grievance, you’re indirectly (passively) posing your grievance as a question ostensibly at no one in particular.

I didn’t much care for the condescending tone of “Very good, you got other sources… Now lemme archive 'em” either, which further contributes to the passive aggressive feel of the comment.

Posing a point directly doesn’t have to be mean or rude either. You could just as well have said:

“@Palacegalleryratio, please can you alter your link to an archive one? So we don’t drive traffic to reactionary sites. I’ve got a link for you to use here!”

It’s direct, polite and helpful - and it’s basically what you did but it wouldn’t have rubbed me up the wrong way, on what was an entirely reasonable request I was only too happy to action.

I apologize. I guess I got too accustomed with that behavior...

Thanks, appreciated. Care-Comrade

Also paywalls, so many articles get posted on this site behind paywalls with no archive link that it makes me wonder if the poster actually reads them (not related to this post specifically).

Very good, you got other sources

The Telegraph

The BBC

The Independent

Now lemme archive 'em [thanks for doing the Telegraph though]:

The BBC

The Independent
