I once saw a video of a soldier coming home to his cat. The cat leapt right up into his arms. Sweetest thing I'd seen all month.
My favorite is them coming home to dogs, though I guess I am in the wrong community for that.
Dogs act like that when you go out to buy milk though.
So it is a lot less special.
My uncle's dog actually fainted the first time he came back from deployment. He was a very sweet dog. Snuggly, quiet white lab who was dignified and looked like vaguely like a polar bear.
