What's prop 50?
Redistricting in the Dem’s favor to gain 5 House seats in response to Texas doing the same thing for Republican seats.
It’s a dirty play, but the high road was going to guarantee a republican House majority. We’re all wrestling in the mud now, but at least we’re not just bending over.
That's such a succinct way to put it.
I always thought of it as fighting with one arm tied behind your back. An honorable death doesn't help the living.
Essentially it allows California to gerrymander by removing the independent redistricting body. The stated reason is to nullify Texas' own partisan redistricting. I believe that there is a clause to that effect. Sort of like if you do this, we'll reciprocate.
It also sunsets on its own after 2030 so not permanent.
