Civil Rights concessions happened because the movement made it more practical for the state to make concessions than to crack down harder. They did this by being highly organized and having a variety of levels of militancy, from peaceful protesting to armed struggles, which allowed them to prepare for and handle crackdowns. I don't see why JFK's assassination would have made a difference.
