And the hundred flowers campaign and the backyard smelting and especially the Red Guard conflicts, the last of which I think dwarfs the rest of it even though we can say in all of these cases he was trying to do the right thing but failed, sometimes for really obvious reasons and sometimes because he was faced with an incredibly difficult problem for which there was no precedented solution.
