Welcome!
Can you imagine, years ago how the internet was before? We know Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Youtube. We knew blogger, Tumblr, Skyrock... and long before, it was the forum era as phpBB..and mail-lists.
And now with ActivityPub, we are reshaping the web, and achieving much more with lots of freedom. So thank you all, and welcome ๐ค๐

I don't see an issue. I don't believe in the bubble bs because that has always been how people have been. In the real world you hang out where you feel comfortable and avoid places you don't. I think people should do the same and block as they need. There have always been folk who only stay in a very limited sphere and those who walk the spheres. So good ideas will circulate but bs fud will not. Im a social democracy type and don't care to hear about how its ok to ignore the bill of rights just a bit because of immigants or that once the workers own the means of production we will be in a paradise. I do care to hear about interesting games and read comics and all sorts of other things. I firmly believe as long as we maximally decentralize and give maximum power for the users to control their feeds it will be great.
The constant parroting of "bubble" and "echo chamber terminology" in English language internet is extremely tiring.
Not to say these concepts aren't real, but the issue isn't as simplistic and straightforward as the polemics seem to imply.
Yeah I completely agree. Im not saying it does not happen. I think the main thing to me is the internet is no longer majority useful accurate information and a minority of bullshit. Over time it flipped and now the ratio of good information vs bull is so small its more beneficial to filter out massively. Good information has to show its merit make its way forward the way it did in the real world.
Agreed, it's rife with shit these days. Any idiots can contribute to spreading random idiocy. The engagement driven model is beneficial for tech companies' bottom lines, but it's not a good development for the public.
And even outside of that, sometimes you want qualities typically associated with an echo chamber. Even back in the day, to partake in forums you had to lurk and get a feel for the culture, which resulted in better quality overall IMO (although Fediverse is nice, a modern equivalent to forums, just a lot smaller than the totality of forums back then).
