Excel flash fill is amazingly bad. I've never seen produce anything but unintelligible garbage.
You’re dragging it wrong
Flash fill is not the result of user dragging. It's an automatic prediction done by Excel while you type. Therefore, the commonly horrible output is not the result of user error.

It either works flawlessly or not at all in my experience.
