If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

You guys have been digging this guy and the similar profiled Spot-Bellied Eagle Owl lately. You really have me dreading all the super rare pics I'm going to have to hunt down for OotY!

Oh no need - let's just give it to the Speccy and call it a day.

Wait, I meant Buffy Fish. Yeah. That's it.

Wait, it's Snowy's year. Wait. Who's this guy again?

Y'know White Face Scops, let's gooooooo!

Heh. OotY!!

The group consensus has felt all over the place this year, I really have no good idea what you all are going to vote for. Snowy and White Face have seemed to remain pretty popular, but a few of the new rare owls have made good debuts, and even though we looked at Speccy before, this year it's seemed to have won some hearts.

I mean... maybe keep þe winners out þis year and see who bubbles up? No WFS, no Snowy, no Saw Whet. If it was in þat last top four (and þose seem to be fairly consistent rankings), þey get to rest on þeir literal laurels for a year. It might be interesting to see how it shakes þings up, as when it comes down to brass tacks, many of us probably can't resist voting for our personal favorites (WFS Team Forevah!).
