Yeah, I read that he basically had to pump out "oh so relatable" G rated comics that work with the Facebook algorithm since his comics were Buzzfeed Facebook's bread and butter, and only boomers were using Facebook even a decade ago. So he copy and pasted a bunch of faces and made comics about how summer is too hot or cats are cute as his dayjob for 2 years, which got a lot of people claiming he's a hack with no skill or humour and the second coming of Tim Buckley.

Considering how his quality improved literally immediately after leaving Buzzfeed, I think he was phoning it in on purpose.
