I usually get them to take some interest in the Soviet perspective by calling it "the Great Patriotic War" all the time, and then telling them that's just the Soviet term. It doesn't always work very well, but now and then it does something. And, y'know, I like using Soviet terms rather than Western terms for things.

Yeah, that's my attitude to a lot of stuff. It's not stupid if it works. Which is all too often a really good attitude to have towards handling liberals.
