It's literally the American "Pledge of Allegience" on steroids. In fact, when I first immigrated to the US, I just thought the pledge was a "normal" thing, like a ritual, that every country does (I was a non-citizen at the time so I remained silent of course). But then Europeans told me it wasn't normal.
