OP you were in Houston, which often gets a bad rep for being a suburban hellscape (unless you live inside the loop), but let me defend it a bit. It is genuinely the most diverse city in all of America (used to live there and in NYC for a few years in a previous life), major problems notwithstanding. Houston feels even less segregating than NYC, and has a more working class vibe than the finance ghouls populated NYC, or the techbros in SF (and I heard increasingly in Austin as well). It is also one of the most culturally important cities for the black community.
I find that white people often don’t like that chaotic vibe brought by the large immigrant communities (the sort of vibe you find in major cities in the developing countries lol) and especially if they have grown up in well-segregated planned neighborhoods with strict zoning laws, but if you’re not white, the diversity makes it nothing like anywhere else in America. I genuinely liked it more than NYC because the people were way more friendly if anything.
Huh, interesting! Thanks for sharing, didnt know that!
Also every minority and left-of-Republican I know that’s been to both places says Dallas easily clears Houston lol.
Only worked in Dallas myself, it’s still Texas so it’s still shit, but less shit than the worst Texas shit if that makes sense
