The trailer makes it look like a typical war movie. But the protagonists are German soldiers. I'm sure there will be a scene or two that show they're meanies.
They do, for exactly the reason you think, to try and make them sympathetic characters who were "at least sad about it" instead of the obvious reality that they were laughing the whole time.

Its not even a made up name, that's the name of the actual genera of films they produce. We produce them too, like American Sniper.
